Automotive News publishes 230-page Chevrolet 100 commemorative
October 2011 —On Oct. 31, Automotive News published a special edition celebrating the 100th anniversary of Chevrolet.
Deputy Managing Editor Mary Beth Vander Schaaf led the editorial team to create the massive 230- page commemorative issue. Design Director Steve Massie designed every page in the issue. Automotive News tells 100 stories about Chevy's fascinating people and popular and not-so-popular vehicles over the last 100 years, from the brand's founding by consummate dealmaker Billy Durant and Swiss race car driver Louis Chevrolet, through its recent attempt at leadership in the electrification of automobiles with the Chevy Volt.
The issue includes a 40-page shared section with Advertising Age. The story ideas and assignments in that section came from Advertising Age Executive Editor Judann Pollack.
The Automotive News sales and marketing team, led by Rick Greer, stayed focused on a goal set by Editor-in-Chief Keith Crain to sell 100 ad pages, and exceeded that target with a total of 113 ad pages (including ads from 140 companies). Brand Communications Manager Kathy Lightbody kept the monthly team meetings on track and managed all the marketing, including a special website devoted to issue promotion.
