Brown Named Publisher and Editorial Director Of Automotive News

Peter Brown has been promoted to publisher/editorial director of Automotive News. Brown previously held the position of associate publisher/editorial director.

Brown assumes the publisher title from Keith Crain, Chairman, Crain Communications, who will remain as editor-in-chief and continue to write his weekly column for the publication.

Brown joined Automotive News as editor in February, 1989 after four years as the founding editor of Crain's Detroit Business. He was named associate publisher in 1992 and a vice president of Crain Communications in 1994. During his tenure, he has led Automotive News to dramatic growth and great global prominence with a suite of print and online products that cover the entire automotive industry. Included in the Automotive News family is the flagship print publication--Automotive News--and ancillary products that include Automotive News Europe, Automotive News China, autonews.com, digital editions, daily newscasts, data, webinars, conferences, events and a variety of e-mail products.

Today, he oversees more than 50 automotive reporters and editors around the world.

Brown joined Crain Communications in 1984 from the Detroit Free Press. He has been a reporter or editor at eight publications. Individually or as editor-in-chief, he holds many state and national journalism awards. He earned a B.A. in politics and government from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1970 and an M.A. in theater from the University of Michigan in 1974.
