CDB staffers win excellence awards from Detroit chapter of Society of Professional Journalists

April 2011 — Crain’s Detroit Business and several members of the editorial staff received accolades in the 2010 Excellence in Journalism awards of the Detroit chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ). In the online journalism category, Crain’s Web site, crainsdetroit.com, was given a first-place award for having a “well-designed, easy to navigate site that covers local business exceptionally well,” according to the SPJ.

Crain’s multimedia reporter Nathan Skid and Web Developer Steve Williams won first place in the multimedia feature category for their work on Crain’s annual 20 in their 20s awards.

Assistant News Editor Jeff Johnston won first-place awards in the best feature page design and editorial page design categories. Nonprofits and services reporter Sherri Welch took second place in the general news category. Bill Shea, enterprise editor and reporter, won second place in the commentary/blogging category.
